Anthology of Torn Memories

In this particular series of work Bipasha recreates the phrase “Torn Memories” in reality.
She wrote in her subconscious language (asemic writing/psychic automatism) and subsequently tore
apart more than 22 yards of fine muslin fabric into thousands of pieces and pasted on canvas to express
her notion of distorted memories, deep inside.
As a lightweight fabric, muslin sways with even the slightest movement. Bipasha defines the delicate
movement as the physical and mental resonance of a memory. Thus each single piece of torn fabric
becomes interactive with each person who comes in contact with the artwork and eventually carries the
experience as their own memory.

"Memory is the driving force that shapes us. Without it, we are nothing. As an artist, I've always sought to capture the unseen world of my mind. In this project, I explored the concept of 'Torn Memories,' transforming a familiar phrase into a tangible, living entity.

I tore a vast collection of muslin fabric, inscribed with my subconscious texts, into thousands of pieces. These fragments were then reassembled to form a surreal landscape, one that blurs the lines between reality and memory.

The words of Haruki Murakami, 'Each memory was now the shadow of a shadow of a shadow,' from his story 'Tony Takitani,' inspired my use of transparent muslin. This medium embodies the ephemeral nature of memory, which is both a shadow of reality and an imprint of our recollections.

As viewers interact with the artwork, each delicate piece stirs, generating new memories with every gentle touch."
